The colour between red and yellow on the light spectrum, its name is derived from the fruit.
The colour orange didn’t get its name until the 15th century when Portuguese merchants first brought orange tree’s to Europe. Before the 15th century it was simply referred to as yellow-red.
The orange colour in carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins and oranges comes from the carotenes, a type of photosynthetic pigment that converts light energy into chemical energy to be used in the plants growth.
Paprika is sometimes fed to chickens in order to make their egg yolks appear more orange.
In Buddhism, monks wear orange robes; the colour is a sign of renunciation of the outside world and commitment to the order.
Orange is the colour commonly associated with extroverts, fire, taste, aroma, activity, excitement, happiness, amusement, safety, warnings, autumn.
