Post 21: A Colour Story Collaboration - May Was Purple
Recently I have been working on "A Color Story" a collaboration project involving photographers from around the world. Each month we search for a different colour, photograph it and turn it into a collage.
We started the project off with some facts and history about purple. For me a background story is very important when capturing moments, it allows you (as the photographer) to create a photograph with depth, meaning and understanding. The more we know about our clients the more they will appreciate and love the result!

Ultimamente ho lavorato ad una “Storia di Colori”, un progetto in collaborazione che coinvolge fotografi di tutto il mondo. Ogni mese viene definito un colore differente che diventa la base delle foto da realizzare per comporre un collage.
Il progetto è iniziato partendo da fatti e storie legate al colore viola. Conoscere la storia che sta dietro alle situazioni e ai momenti da catturare in una fotografia è importante per me, permette al fotografo di realizzare uno scatto ricco di significato. Più cose conosciamo dei nostri clienti, più questi apprezzeranno e ameranno il risultato!
“Purple:
A secondary color between red and blue. It is rare in nature and is the most powerful wavelength of the rainbow. It's complimentary color is yellow.
In 1900 BC, it would take 12,000 shellfish to extract 1.5 grams of pure dye. That was enough for one large garment like a Roman toga. In fact, Roman emperors Julius Caesar and Augustus decreed that only the emperor could wear purple. And when Nero took the thrown, he made the wearing or selling of purple clothing punishable by death!
It symbolizes magic, mystery, creativity, spirituality, dignity and royalty.
In some cultures, it is the color for mourning and death (U.K., Italy, Thailand, Brazil).
In surverys, it is found to be the most popular among children and creative adults."
